WHAT IS GENE THERAPY ?
Gene therapy was discovered in the late 1980's. The first gene therapy operation operation occurred in 1990 and was a success Gene therapy is a use of DNA to treat and prevent diseases. There are few diseases which can be cured by gene therapy, but researchers are still working on curing other diseases such as certain forms of cancer which can not yet be cured by gene therapy. If researchers can find a way to replace a mutated gene's with a healthy one they can cure all the diseases that involve gene therapy. There are genetically inherited diseases which can not be cured by gene therapy, but it is said that there is a possibility of techniques that can help cure this disease in the future. Sometimes inactivating a mutated gene is also a way to prevent genetic diseases. It is a dream for many scientist to find a cure for cancer and inheritable diseases.
